Arusha National Park
Arusha National Park is often overlooked by travelers rushing to the more famous sights of the Ngorongoro Crater and Serengeti. However, with a little time, Arusha National Park offers some lovely walking in the foothills of Mount Meru and canoeing on the Momela Lakes, plus gentle game drives. If you have the time it is well worth a day or two. There is a range of activities to do in Arusha National Park. This includes walking safaris which are always accompanied by a ranger and last for a maximum of four hours, during which you would stop for a break at one of the park’s lovely picnic sites. You can also explore the far reaches of the park by vehicle, taking in some of the lovely views and keeping an eye out for wildlife.
Materuni Waterfalls
We’ll pick you up from your hotel in Arusha at 9:30 am and set off on the short twenty-minute drive to the village of Materuni, located in the foothills of Mount Kilimanjaro. Accompanied by an English-speaking guide, we’ll embark on a hiking route to the Materuni Waterfalls. The trail, which is around an hour-long, will take us through lush green vegetation and past the houses of the Chaga people who live here, one of the largest ethnic groups in Tanzania. During your trek, your guide will tell you all about the Chaga way of life. On reaching the waterfall, you’ll be left speechless by the sheer size of the falls. You’ll have the opportunity here to enjoy a refreshing dip in the natural pool below.
Ngorongoro Day Trip
Ngorongoro crater is the largest intact caldera covering a 310-kilometer square, 600 meters deep, and 20 kilometers across. It is one of the breathtaking natural wonders of Tanzania. It is a place within the Ngorongoro conservation area where man and wildlife come directly into contact. The crater serves as a habitat for a number of species of plants and animals found inside the crater. However, as one of the world’s most astonishing and renowned natural wonders, Ngorongoro Crater does get busy, and at times very busy. Due to the crowds, we recommend a two-night stay only here, then moving on to the Serengeti for a quieter, more private safari experience.
Lake Manyara
An isolated lake subject to intense evaporation during the dry season, Lake Manyara is a slightly salty lake that is home to hippopotamus, flamingoes, and a large variety of aquatic life. Despite its salt content, it is safe for animals to drink and is a popular watering hole for the park’s animal population. During the wet season, Lake Manyara swells to a sizable body of water perfect for guided canoe safaris. During the dry season, it can shrink to such a small size that it is almost possible to walk across it. Discover Lake Manyara National Park from a 4×4 with an English-speaking guide and drive through the village of Mto Wa Mbu to get a taste of traditional Tanzanian life.
Kikuletwa Hot Springs
